The Busiest Time of My Life
It’s been two months since I updated everyone on what’s been going on with me. This is probably the busiest time in my life, and I’m doing my best to keep up. Let’s run through what’s been happening and what’s coming.
July: My First Book Event
I kicked off my book tour for Hinterland and Sourwood with a multi-author signing event at Book Nook on Main in Winchester, Kentucky. I was nervous but excited for the day, hoping I would meet readers and sell out of my inventory. Needless to say that it was a success. The event was scheduled to last six hours but I sold out in under three! Actually, I OVERSOLD and had to grab some books from my personal stash to give to people after the event ended. I met some amazing people and loved every minute of the event. It was the best feeling in the world!
On the way home from the event, I got in a minor car accident. The universe has a funny sense of humor. Thankfully, I’m okay, as is the other driver. My car sustained some damage, but it’s being fixed.
August: Buying a House, Next Book Due, and Another Event
If things weren’t crazy enough, I put in an offer on a house, and it was accepted. I’ve been dealing with inspections, negotiations, and mountains of paperwork. I’ve already started packing up my apartment.
Meanwhile, I’ve been reviewing my next book, The House on Garnet Hill, becasue it’s due to my publisher—Quill & Crow— by mid August. At the end of August I’ll be in Morehead, Kentucky for the Appalachian Literary Arts Festival selling my books.
September: Editing, More Events, and Closing
I’ll be spending the majority of September editing The House on Garnet Hill. On September 5th I’ll be doing a local author spotlight at Joseph-Beth in Lexington. Then on September 26th you can find me at the Spooktastic Book Fair in Boston, Massachusetts. I’ll be there to connect with readers and other authors, sign and sell books, and doing my first panel: When Darkness Loves Us. The talk with focus on finding success through dark literature and community/connection in the weird. I’m honored to be a part of this panel and can’t wait for it.
The day after I get back from Spooktastic, I’ll be closing on my house! Two days later, I have to be out of my apartment.
October: Two Final Events and Vacation
The end of September will blur with the beginning of October because my book, The House on Garnet Hill is due by October 1st and two days later I’ll be in Decatur, Georgia, at the Decatur Book Festival with Andrew K. Clark.
That end of September, beginning of October week will be the craziest time in my life.
After that event, I’ll have about a week and a half before I fly down to Texas for my sister’s wedding and a book event at Books by the Bay in La Porte, Texas. Thankfully, after that event on the 17th, I’ll have a week off for vacation. There are no other planned events after that time. I’ll get some rest and spend my time writing my current work in progress, because (of course) I’m slowly drafting a new book during this time. I won’t give much away, but it’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle meets Victorian Psycho.
There is a very small chance I’ll be editing another novel in late October or early November. The first book I wrote, You Belong in the Grave, needs some work before I pitch it to publishers but I might have to put that on the back burner until life slows down.
If you were able to keep up with that, congratulations! I can barely keep up with everything going on. I’ve already told my friends that I’ll be ghosting them for most of September. Don’t worry, I’ll still be around and hopefully reemerge in late October or early November.
